Project Heights: A Peaceful Retreat for a Deserving Mom

Midland Park, NJ

THE STARTING POINT

Project Heights was such a special one. It was for the mother of a high school friend—truly one of the sweetest women you’ll ever meet. Her bedroom hadn’t been updated in decades, and she was longing for a space that finally felt like her—cozy, peaceful, and a little more elevated. Her daughter Alyssa, who referred her to me, was so excited to give her mom the chance to finally pour into herself after years of putting everyone else first. It felt like such an honor to help refresh the room of someone I’d known growing up and to create a space that celebrated her warmth and generosity.

THE TRANSFORMATION

To bring this room to life, we started with a dramatic accent wall in a rich, earthy green and balanced it with soft, calming neutrals throughout the rest of the space. We selected beautiful new furniture—durable, solid pieces that she could enjoy for many years. With fresh paint and updated furnishings in place, the true showstopper became the oversized chandelier, a stunning focal point that immediately draws your eye the moment you walk in. A few thoughtful functional touches and decor pieces rounded out the room, creating a space that finally feels reflective of her warmth and personality.

THE REVEAL

Revealing this room to such a sweet, deserving woman was incredibly rewarding. She absolutely loved her new space, and later her daughter messaged me with so much excitement and gratitude—it meant the world to them both. So often, as adults and parents, our own bedrooms become the last spaces we invest in. I was genuinely proud of Alyssa and her mom for choosing to prioritize her comfort and create a serene, peaceful retreat she can enjoy every single day.
